Healthcare

Hull & Humber already punches above its weight in the healthcare sector, as the city of Hull is home to some of the leading names in healthcare such as Smith & Nephew, Reckitt Benckiser and Seven Seas, who operate world leading, multi-million pound operations. This offers particular advantages for Hull & Humber to capitalise on, particularly when added to some of the more recent developments in the area such as the Hull York Medical School, a partnership between the universities of Hull and York and now one of the country’s leading medical schools. In another innovative partnership between Smith & Nephew, the University of Hull and the local primary and acute NHS trusts, the groundbreaking Institute of Woundcare has been developed with an aspiration to grow into a world leading research facility.

The University of Hull also possesses specific biomedical and healthcare and research capabilities.

Hull & Humber offers easy access to a large number of graduates to fill the highly skilled positions necessary for this sector. Process industry skills are also largely available in the city region, also specific to the healthcare sector.

Hull & Humber has a competitive advantage in having an established clinical trials experience, supported by the UK's National Health Service patient base.

Hull & Humber has a very competitive offer in terms of cost and availability of land and premises. Labour and property costs are at the lower end from a UK perspective but in a European context, cost savings of up to 40% could be achieved and in some cases up to 80%.

A focus on this sector will undoubtedly harness the existing expertise and infrastructure available, bolstering Hull’s position in the global healthcare market.
