WTCA Day 2008 helps spread WTC/WTCA image and mission globally

WTCA Day 2008 was another big success for the WTCA and WTCs, with many WTC’s conducting various activities on June 11 and other dates to call attention to WTC and WTCA purposes and programs.

WTCA Day for WTC Arkansas lasted the entire month. In cooperation with the U.S. Department of Commerce, the WTC held a “brown bag” lunch program every Thursday in May on topics such as free trade agreements, doing business with India, trade in the Western Hemisphere, opportunities and resources in China, and the African Growth and Opportunity Act. All these programs were free of charge and open to the public. Similar free events open to the public will be offered monthly in the future and possibly in other locations around the state.

WTC Atlanta organized a tourism forum that hosted Chinese tourists and businesspeople to increase Chinese tourism to Georgia.

A half-day event with various panels was organized by WTC Denver that included 27 speakers and about 300 guests.

The WTC of Greater Philadelphia organized a WTCA Day dinner for 320 people, with presentations by the director of the Philadelphia Port Authority and the director of the South Jersey Port Authority.

A luncheon for World Trade Week was sponsored by the Northern California WTC for 38 representatives of foreign consulates in California.

WTC Algiers conducted an event called “Export Trophy” which recognized the most successful exporters of the region over the past 12 months. The presentations were made in a major ceremony chaired by the minister of commerce.

Each year, WTC Sao Paulo devotes one day in June to reflect on and celebrate peace among nations. The day is called “WTCA of Peace.” This year it was celebrated June 22, with presentations by various non-government personalities. Two famous Brazilian singers produced a jingle with peace as its theme. The song was presented at the end of the program, and the song lyrics were printed on T-shirts worn by all participating children.
